Governor’s School Improvement Fund

St Catherine’s children benefit from former generations of Catholics, whose contributions have been used to achieve many of the facilities that your children enjoy today.  St Catherine’s, unlike many schools, has a Voluntary Aided status which means that the School owns the school buildings (this is unlike other local schools such as Danegrove and Underhill). As a result of this status, we (the school community) have to contribute 10% to any building work and maintenance; we are not helped in this by the Local Authority, Government or the church; we simply rely on the generosity of our parents.

During the summer of 2014 we were fortunate to be able to access funding to replace the Foundation and Year 1 windows but urgent repairs are still required to the flat roof which was damaged during bad weather.  Our plans also include building a dedicated ‘arts hub’ which will benefit all pupils; this will be a great learning environment for the children. Research has found that teaching the arts aids learning in other subjects and enhances children’s life skills. There are also plans to develop the garden area at the front of the school for the use of  Years 3 and 4.  Access to the funding required to facilitate these works relies on your generosity and contributions to the fund.

Parents are asked to consider making a regular donation to help this important development of the School campus.

Standing Orders

We ask each family, to set up a Standing Order (see below for a link to the form) with a suggested monthly contribution of £20. We understand that not all families can afford this and others can afford more, we currently have contributions ranging from £5 to £50. We would ask each family to be as generous as possible but to give something on a regular basis.

Cash/ Cheque Donation
If you are unable to commit to a standing order and would prefer to make a one off donation, please post your contribution, clearly marked, to the school office.  If you are enclosing a cheque, please write your child’s name and class on the back of the cheque.  Cheques should be made payable to: St. Catherine’s School.

Gift Aid Scheme

The Gift Aid Scheme allows us to claim back from HMRC at least 20 per cent from your donation, this means that if you give £20 using Gift Aid, it’s worth £24 to us at no extra cost to you.  This applies to cash, cheque and standing orders.  Details of the scheme are available at www.hmrc.gov.uk/individuals/giving/gift-aid.htm.
