Milites, ut parati!
Year 4 received a very special letter from Claudius, Emperor of Rome and General of the Roman army, inviting them to become one of his noble soldiers. After writing him a response detailing their strengths and skills, the children were accepted in to his legions and participated in a range of actvities preparing them for their invasion of Britain. They began by making their own ‘cassis’ or ‘galea’ (helmets) to protect them from deadly blows to the head. They then participated in Roman army bootcamp which tested and trained their strength, agility and speed. Finally, they used maps to plan their route through Britain, ensuring they took the quickest route possible to reach the most important towns. The children enjoyed dressing up and feeling like a Roman for a day!
