Online Safety – 01/05/24– Strangers Online

On Monday, years 5 and 6 had workshops with the Prevent Coordinator for the Local Authority. In this time, they learnt about online relationships and the potential risks associated with communicating online with people they don’t know in person. It is important that as school staff, parents and carers we support children in managing these risks. Initially, you can support child by understanding the privacy features available in apps and games they use and implementing these to prevent unwanted contact from strangers. As well as this, discussions about how we can really know who someone is online are really important in ensuring children understand that they never really know who someone is until they have met them in person. Finally, you can also have open conversations with your child about who they are communicating with online and questioning and investigating anyone you do not know.
