Online Safety – 20/09/23 – Sharing Photos Online

Children’s school years are full of milestones which can mean many photos that are frequently shared online. Whilst this is often a very positive thing to do, it can come with some risks that are worth taking into consideration. Ensuring all your social media accounts are private is the best place to start, however do be aware that this doesn’t stop your friends and followers from showing the images to or sharing with others. Because of this, it is important that any personal details are not shared such as school logos on uniforms or bags as well as any information about your child’s routine such as when and where they attend specific clubs. Finally, be aware that every photo of your child that you post online contributes to their digital footprint as it will have a permanent online presence. Consider keeping their digital footprint to a minimum to allow them autonomy over this in the future.
