Dear Parents/Carers,
We had a wonderful trip to the Barnet Food Bank last Wednesday. The children learnt so much about the challenges people face and the invaluable work the Food Bank does to support the local community.
As you will have gathered from our MANY emails yesterday (sorry), we have a few trips coming up. Please see the emails about the Music trip to the Royal College of Music on Monday 10th July and the potential DT trip to Finchley Catholic High School on Wednesday 12th July as well as 5G’s rescheduled Science trip to Barnet Environmental Centre of Thursday 13th July. For these trip to go ahead, we are relying on your support. Please complete the online forms indicate whether you are able to accompany us on these days.

This week
Literacy: We have started our new genre of newspapers. We read examples of newspaper articles of the moon landing and have started to practise the sentence types that would be most effective in this piece of writing.
Maths: IT IS MATHS WEEK! We had an exciting start to Maths Week where we had to solve problems to open a padlock which revealed the theme of the week and a book. We will continue to use this book as a stimulus for our Maths activities during the week. On Thursday afternoon it is Strictly Come Penguin Dancing. As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, children are invited to bring in black and white clothes or a penguin costume to take part in the class dance competition.
The link to the dance they will need to perform is here: KS2 Penguin Dance
Guided Reading: Thank you to those who have already bought our Guided Reading text, ‘Cosmic’ by Frank Cottrell Boyce. The links to buy these book are below.

Science: This week we are learning about day and night.
RE: We have continued exploring the Jewish faith, comparing it to Christianity.
History: We are exploring a variety of primary and secondary sources about the moon landing. We will use our analytical skills to examine them.
PE: We have practised using our rugby skills using attackers and defenders in a mini game. The children are developing their run and pass backwards to escape being tagged!
Spellings: This week we have focussed on homophones.
