Year 5 Weekly Update – 21/10/22

Dear Parents,

It was so lovely to share our Harvest assembly with you on Tuesday. The children performed poetry confidently and shared the message of Harvest. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated food, it was collected this week by the local food bank.

In English, we have been writing a fact file about Egyptian pharaohs. The children have learnt many interesting facts and how to include particular techniques in their writing, like parenthesis.

In Maths, we have been learning about multiples of numbers and solving problems involving multiples. We have also been identifying and solving problems involving factors.

In RE, the children enjoyed learning the story of Ramayana through dance. We have also been reflecting on God’s great helpers.

Next half term we will start our topic ‘Peasants, Princes and Pestilence.’ Please find attached the knowledge organiser for this topic.

Support at home

This week the children have looked back in their English books for spelling words that they feel they need to learn and focus on. A list of these spellings will go home with your child tomorrow. They will not be tested on these in class but it would be useful for them to practise them at home.

Times Table Rock Stars

Please continue to encourage your child to use Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS) at home.

We have set a tournament for each class, it will be girls vs boys. The tournament will begin at 10am Wednesday 26th October and finish at 6pm on Wednesday 2nd November.

Reading

Please keep encouraging your child to read for twenty minutes daily. The reading challenge will begin after half term. We look forward to hearing about all the interesting books they read over the holiday.
