Online content about the war in Ukraine

Whilst digital platforms have been extremely useful for us to gather information and learn more about what is happening in the world, there are also many things that could cause worry and upset for children. Children who may simply be seeking facts could come across content that is harmful and sometimes not even true. Often posts contain language such as ‘bombing’ and ‘invasion’ or even ‘World War Three’. Given the new nature of what is going on, it is probably more difficult than ever for children to be sure of what is true and what is not. Talk to your child about websites we can trust and what ‘fake news’ is. Remind them that sometimes people posting on Instagram and TikTok are not doing so to inform people but instead to gain likes and views through shock tactics. BBC Newsround is a great place to start if you are looking for child friendly information that you can share with your child.
