There was a real buzz throughout the school yesterday, as children poured into the classrooms wearing their pyjamas, carrying their cushions and mugs, and clinging proudly to the books that they have enjoyed reading recently! World Book Day was a real success, and the children and teachers at St Catherine’s enjoyed celebrating our theme of ‘Snuggling up with a Good Book’.
Children took part in a variety of activities in their own classrooms: book ‘speed-dating’, making finger puppets, making posters of favourite books, designing pants for aliens (inspired by the Aliens love Underpants books) writing book reviews and plenty more! In all classes, children ‘snuggled up’ with their hot chocolates, either reading a book of their choice independently, or listening to the teacher reading the class book.
Books, characters and reading were at the heart of the day and it was a joy to see so many children sharing their passion for reading with one another.
Thank you parents, for your support, and well done to the children and teachers for making the day so fun and memorable.
“Since the book challenge, I’ve got more into books. I now read before I go to sleep to calm down.” (Year 3 child)
