On Wednesday, Year 4 had a wonderful ‘Potion’s Day’ filled with fascinating experiments and engaging activities, marking the beginning of our exploration into the science of states of matter. We started the day sorting a variety of materials into solids, liquids and gas and learning about their particles’ arrangement. Next, we answered the investigation question “Is custard a liquid, a gas or a solid?”. Our class Science Ambassadors helped lead a series of experiments that lead to children questioning the matter classification and properties of custard. We discovered that custard is actually a colloid! We ended the day creating gas reactions within our own potions with children making their own colourful lava lamp that bubbled and fizzed like real magic.
