Year 5 Weekly Update – 15/09/23

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are well underway in our learning now in Year 5! Our days are enjoyable and productive.

Next week we have our trip to the British Museum – Monday 18th September. Please refer to the details in the letter emailed out last week. As you know we rely on parental support in order for the trip to take place. We currently don’t have any volunteers from 5MG. If you can accompany us on the day, please let us know as soon as possible.

This week

Maths: We are continuing our Maths topic on Place Value, using Roman numerals to solve problems.

RE: We will be discussing scientific and theological truths and learning about the Story of Creation.

Computing: We explored the vocabulary related to staying safe online as well as practising our search engine skills and copying and pasting text.

History: We explored a variety of primary and secondary sources relating to Ancient Egypt including images, artefacts and books.

English: We asked effective and pertinent questions about Howard Carter’s discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb in Egypt 1922.

Guided Reading: using retrieval skills and looking at how vocabulary is used in an interview text.

Music: We used non-tuned percussion instruments to create different sounds and sound patterns inspired by Egyptian hieroglyphics. We also used our listening skills for ‘Walk like an Egyptian’ by The Bangles!
