Fortnite has a PEGI rating of 12, PEGI have said it contains: ‘frequent scenes of mild violence. It is not suitable for persons under 12 years of age’. Whilst it is possible to play a more ‘child friendly’ version of Fortnite, online chats could expose children to strangers and inappropriate language. As well as this, in the Battle Royale version of the game, players try to eliminate enemies with weapons and firearms and are also shown some potentially scary imagery, such as Husks wearing human hosts like a hoodie. It is also important to note that some children are accessing other websites related to Fortnite in the search for tips or guide videos. These websites are not regulated by or affiliated with Fortnite itself and could expose children to harmful content.
