Teaching Assistant

Overview

We are seeking to appoint a Level 2 Teaching Assistant to join our team from September 2026. This post is initially offered on a one-year contract. The successful candidate will have experience of, or a strong interest in, supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), and be willing to work across the full primary age range.

The ideal candidate will:

Have a sound understanding of how children learn and effective strategies to support progress
Be sensitive to the individual needs of pupils, particularly those with SEND
Be able to work collaboratively as part of a team
Ideally have experience of supporting children with additional needs and delivering intervention groups
Demonstrate initiative, enthusiasm and a proactive approach
Possess excellent literacy and numeracy skills

Personal attributes

You must have sound knowledge of how children learn and a number of strategies to encourage learning. You will need to be sensitive to the special needs of individual children and be able to work as part of a team. Previous experience of working with special needs children and running intervention groups would be useful. Candidates will need to demonstrate initiative and enthusiasm and have excellent literacy and numeracy skills.

Salary

Salary from £32,070 to £33,012 per year FTE

Barnet Unified Award Grade D
