Sustainability Champions

The Sustainability Champions have just begun their term, having been selected from across Years 5 and 6. This year’s applicants impressed us not only with their thoughtful ideas but also with the way they submitted them, some even chose to send entries by email or on USB flash drives, already demonstrating sustainable thinking in action. All the submissions were terrific, and the new team is very excited to start making meaningful changes around the school.

The newly formed St Catherine’s Sustainability Champions are eager to begin their mission of making our school greener and more environmentally aware. Last academic year, we used 1,200 gluesticks, an amount that highlights the need for a more sustainable solution. Their first focus is reducing single-use plastics, starting with a pilot project to replace traditional gluesticks with an eco-friendlier alternative. To support this initiative, we are asking families to donate old Tupperware or clean takeaway containers with lids, please do not purchase anything new. These will be repurposed into glue-sponge boxes for classroom use. If the trial proves successful, the scheme will be rolled out across the whole school, helping us take another positive step toward a more eco-friendly future.
