Ash Wednesday and Catholic Children’s Society Boxes

We are very lucky at St Catherine’s to serve 2 parishes. Thank you to Fr Jude who welcomed Year 3 and 4 to St Peters this Wednesday to celebrate mass and receive ashes on this holy day of obligation. The Year 5 and 6 attended mass at St Gregory’s with Fr Godfrey, where Year 6 children carried out the readings clearly and reverently. All of the children sang beautifully. We were made to feel very welcome. The parishioners of both churches were delighted by the children’s attendance and in particular their singing. They were even given a round of applause! It is a pleasure to serve our community.

Fr Godfrey also came to St Catherine’s in the morning to distribute ashes to the staff and children in the Early Years and Key Stage 1. The children have been learning about Lent and are making Lenten promises as we encourage them to look towards Jesus, our hope, and invite Him to be at the centre of our lives and our Lenten journey. We have also distributed the Lenten boxes to raise money for the Catholic Children’s Society; one has been given to each family via the eldest sibling. Please do keep the box in the house for the whole Lent period. These boxes can be returned at the end of Lent after the Easter holidays. Thank you in advance for whatever you can give.
