Laudato Si

Pope Francis appeal for Laudato Si’
At St Catherine’s School, we remain deeply committed to the teachings of Laudato Si’, Pope Francis’ encyclical on care for our common home. Guided by the principles of environmental stewardship, we actively engage in a number of initiatives to care for creation. Our support of Just One Tree helps to restore local ecosystems and combat climate change, and we are proud to be a Planet Hero School. Our School Travel Plan encourages sustainable commuting options to reduce our carbon footprint, and our TfL Explorer Ambassadors work hard to spread this message. Additionally, our curriculum integrates environmental education, fostering a deeper understanding of our responsibility to protect the planet. Through these efforts, we aim to inspire both students and the broader community to live out the call to care for God’s creation, promoting sustainability and justice for all.

‘All of us can cooperate as instruments of God for the care of creation, each according to his or her own culture, experience, and talents.’ (Paragraph 14). The Holy Father also wants us to know that ‘There is hope. But we must develop a loving awareness of this home we share and to act on the values we hold dear.’ (Paragraph 22).

Pope Francis encouraged everyone to pray…
Loving God,
Creator of Heaven, Earth, and all therein contained.
Open our minds and touch our hearts,
so that we can be part of Creation, your gift.
Be present to those in need in these difficult times,
especially the poorest and most vulnerable.
Help us to show creative solidarity
as we confront the consequences of the global pandemic.
Make us courageous in embracing
the changes required to seek the common good.
Now more than ever, may we all feel interconnected and interdependent.
Enable us to succeed in listening and responding
to the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor.
May their current sufferings become the birth-pangs
of a more fraternal and sustainable world.
We pray through Christ our Lord,
under the loving gaze of Mary Help of Christians,
Amen.
