During online safety lessons at St Catherine’s, we focus on a number of key topics including: responsible use of social media, the importance of being a good online friend, and how to effectively report incidents of bullying or misuse. However, it is essential to remember that children often learn most from the behaviour models around them, particularly from adults. Parents can play a pivotal role in supporting their children’s understanding of online safety by engaging in discussions about the apps, websites, and games their children are accessing. You do not need to be an expert—simply ask your child to explain the platforms they use, with whom they interact, and the duration of their online activities. Keep in mind that late-night usage, particularly in bedrooms, can disrupt sleep and affect learning. You may wish to refer to the Digital Family Agreement to help establish shared expectations.
