Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome to our final term of Year 5! We hope you all had a peaceful and enjoyable half term holiday and are ready to hit the ground running with a very busy term ahead. Our new topic is ‘Stargazers’. We attached the knowledge organiser to the email at the end of last term We have attached it again now, please share it with your child.
This week
Literacy: We have started looking at the features of myths and legends and the descriptive, figurative and poetic language that is used.
Maths: This week we are coming to the end of our topic on perimeter and area, calculating the area of compound shapes and estimating area of various shapes. Next week will start our topic of statistics, starting by looking at line graphs.
RE: We have started our new topic of ‘Other Faiths’. This week we have discussed the importance of knowing and understanding other religions in our community, the similarities they have with Christianity and how we can learn from them. We will also explore what our faith is by looking at the Apostles’ Creed.
Spellings: This week our focus is suffixes, and how they can change the meaning of a word. Did you know the suffix ‘ous’ means ‘full of’? So the word ‘adventurous’ means ‘full of adventure’!
The test will be on Friday 16th June.

As you will see there are lots of opportunities for Year 5 to continue their learning outside of the classroom this term – these are incredibly valuable and powerful experiences.
