Year 3 Weekly Update – 26/05/23

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have come to the end of  the penultimate half term of Year 3! The children have had a wonderful half term and have made some brilliant progress and learned some fascinating things.
Next half term, our topic will be ‘Urban Detectives’:

‘Hop on the bus and take a trip downtown, where the lights are bright, and every street has a story to tell.

This half term, we’ll visit our local town to visit Barnet Church and Barnet Museum.  At school, we’ll write an information leaflet about our town. Using digital mapping tools, we’ll identify the streets and buildings that we saw. We’ll investigate Barnet and find out how it’s changed over time. We’ll carry out a traffic survey, and present the data we have collected. As part of our art and design work, we’ll build shadow models and look at the art of local urban artists.’

If you would like to help your child prepare for the project you could:

Take a trip to the city! Why not photograph interesting buildings and make a scrapbook? You could also research urban artists and add your favourite images to your scrapbook. Alternatively, you could visit a churchyard to go gargoyle spotting! Take photographs and try to recreate them at home using modelling materials.

Times tables:
Please practise the 10, 5, 2, 3, 4 and 8 times tables and related division facts.
We look forward to hearing who has been victorious in this week’s competition between 3B and 3G tomorrow! The next Times Tables Rockstars battle will be between Year 3 and 4, beginning tomorrow and ending on Thursday 8th June.
In addition, please use Hit the button (Hit the Button – Quick fire maths practise for 6-11 year olds (topmarks.co.uk)) to practise division facts.
Have a wonderful half term, hopefully the weather holds out!

Kind regards,

Mrs Ball and Miss Grace
