Dear Parents/Carers,
We had a fantastic time at our Tudor Day last Wednesday. Thank you for all the preparation you put in preparing their costumes. The children have been talking about the banquet ever since! Forest School is on tomorrow, and the forecast is looking wonderful!
This week
Literacy: We have completed writing our letters, as Anne Boleyn, to Henry VIII asking for mercy and are now preparing them to put on display in the classroom. We have tried to create parchment using teabags. Unfortunately, we’re out of quills and ink so handwriting pens will suffice.
Maths: This week we are looking at perimeter, specifically of rectangles and rectilinear (compound rectangles) shapes and then general polygons. At the end of the week, we will find the area of rectangles.
Geography: We will be using information and old maps to create our own birds eye map of the Tower of London – where Anne Boleyn was held before her execution in 1536.
History: We will be exploring Tudor crimes and their punishments! It is a bit of a gory lesson!
Music: This term, Year 5 have been composing pieces of music inspired by colours. They have been practising their compositions in small groups and will be performing them this week.
RE: We have finished our newspaper articles relating the events of Easter, including Pentecost. We will finish our topic of ‘Life in the Risen Jesus’ by looking at how a new Pope is elected and how prayer can be used.
Spellings: children have focussed on personalised spellings this week – words they have spelt incorrectly in their books and learning those. There will be no test on Friday 9th June.
TT Rockstars Tournament: There will be a tournament that starts on Tuesday 30th May at 10am and finishes on Tuesday 6th June at 6pm. It’s Girls vs. Boys in each class! Please encourage your child to participate.
It has been a busy and productive half term. We hope you have a peaceful and enjoyable break and look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 5th June. Our topic next term is ‘Stargazers’. We have attached the knowledge organiser to this email. We have several trips planned for next term including the Science Museum.
Upcoming dates: 9th June KS2 Sports Day
12-16th June Travelling Book Fair
12th June Year 5 Trip to the Science Museum
Thank you for your continued support,
Year 5 Team
