Online safety 14/03/23 – Supervised YouTube Account vs YouTube Kids

YouTube offers two main ways for children to explore safely. The first is a supervised Google Account for YouTube and the second a YouTube Kids account. But what is the difference between the two? According to their website: “YouTube Kids is our dedicated app built from the ground up with kids in mind, while a supervised account gives you the choice to allow your kids access to a managed version of regular YouTube.”

This means that the content in YouTube Kids is much smaller than regular YouTube, making it a much safer option. A supervised YouTube account offers access to the main YouTube content but with a choice of parental controls in place meaning there is a greater potential for unsuitable or harmful content to be seen.
