Online Safety 07/03/23 – Twitch

Twitch is an extremely popular livestreaming platform used by gamers to watch others play games such as Among Us. There are paid and free versions and Twitch Prime is included with Amazon Prime subscriptions. Twitch is extremely popular and has around 31 million daily active users. Livestreaming is transmitting or receiving live video and audio coverage of an event over the internet in real-time. While gaming is what it is primarily used for, you can also follow non-gaming channels such as talk shows and podcasts. The minimum age required to sign up is 13 however, even this is often considered too young due to the unpredictable nature of livestreaming and what it could potentially expose children to. Like all livestreaming platforms, Twitch can be risky for kids and teens. It is important to help your children understand what livestreaming is and how it is different from watching controlled shows and channels. This way they too can understand why it is not suitable for children.
