Year 5 Weekly Update – 24/06/22

Dear Parents,

Maths: This week we have continued our topic on angles, exploring angles on a straight line and solving problems finding missing angles.

English: We started our new writing genre: newspaper reports. The children analysed the most important features of newspapers and had to explain their opinion.

Music: In groups, the class explored how to use tempo, pitch, dynamic, timbre, texture and rhythm to compose music inspired by colours. We tried to write our own notation for our compositions.

PE: We used a map of our School playground and field to locate equipment. The first team to complete the course, was the winner.

History: We looked at a variety of primary sources on the space race and the moon landing. We discussed what we had learnt from these sources and then asked questions about them. We learnt a new word: provenance.

Guided Reading: The children are really enjoying reading ‘Cosmic’. We will continue reading this book next week.

Forest School: We used hammers and stones to transfer colour from leaves and flowers onto fabric.

Next week

Maths: We will continue with our angles topic, looking at interior angles in triangles and quadrilaterals.

English: After practising new grammatical sentences we will aim to use these and our topic vocabulary when writing our own newspaper article on the moon landing.

Music: We will start to record our compositions using Audacity and following our written notation.

PE: We will add detail to our maps to create a more complication orienteering course.
