Year 3 Weekly Update – 17/06/22

Dear Parents and Carers,

Our learning this week and next:

Times tables:

So far in KS1 and year 3, children have discretely learnt the 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables. Please ensure that your child is confident in all of these and able to quickly recall them so that they are ready to learn new times tables in year 4. Times Tables Rockstars is a fun way to practise quick recall. We have been amazed by the engagement in Times Tables Rockstars so far and so impressed with all the children we see on the leader board and receiving certificates in our weekly competitions. The competition this week is 3B vs 3G. The top 3 players from each ‘team’ receive a certificate each week.

Maths

Next week, we will complete our learning on length and we will then move on to fractions. We will start by looking at a half before moving on to quarters.

Literacy:

Next week, we will recap the year 3 sentence types and we will begin to plan a leaflet on Barnet Town Centre.

RE

Next week, we will discuss what we can learn from the story of the Good Samaritan. We will then learn about St Paul and debate whether he was a convert or traitor.

Science:

Next week, we will look at how light is reflected and why certain surfaces reflect light.

PSHE:

This week in PSHE, we will learn about zones of regulation. These are coloured zones of feelings and emotions that we move through throughout the day. Blue zone- sad/ tired/ bored, green – happy/ focused/ relaxed, yellow – frustrated/ worried/ excited and red – mad/ terrified/ out of control. We will discuss strategies that can help us get ‘back to the green’ and create a class display so these strategies are available for the children whenever necessary.

Geography:

Following our trip , we will describe the characteristics of the local area.

Thank you to all the parents who have offered to help on the trip. We will be getting back to you all shortly. If anyone else wishes to volunteer, please let us know today.

Kind regards,

Miss Grace and Mrs Ball
