Dear Parents,
We have had a fantastic start to our ‘Off with her Head’ topic. The children have enjoyed being introduced to the gruesome Tudors and have taken part in some fun activities, such as, creating their own coat of arms, watching a re-enactment of Anne Boleyn’s final moments and making a Tudor rose out of fondant icing.
In English, we have started to research the life of Henry VIII. Next week, we will be looking at what makes a good biography, building our topic vocabulary and using interesting sentence starters, which we will then use in our Henry VIII biographies.
In Maths, we have fnished our fractions topic and we have started a new topic on decimals.
In History, we looked at the different Tudor monarchs and created a timeline of the Tudor period.
Next week in History/Geography, we will be looking at maps and pictures to see similarities and differences between London during the Tudor times and now. We will also think about how the characteristics of a settlement change as it gets bigger.
Support at home
Your child could do further research into Henry VIII, to help them when they start to write his biography.
Spellings will be sent home next week. If you want to support your child, the statutory words for Year 5 and 6 are attached, so far this year we have sent home the first 60 spellings (up to the word ‘lightening’). You could ask your child to choose a number 1-60 and test if they know the word. They could get 5 points for each correct spelling. How quickly can they get to 50?
Times Table Rock Stars
Please continue to encourage your child to use Times Table Rock Stars at home.
