Dear Parents,
This week in year 5:
In English, we have written wonderful descriptions of our secret garden setting. We have used figurative language, high level vocabulary and different sentence types.
In Maths, we celebrated maths day by looking at 365 Penguins by Jean-Luc Fromental. We then completed different problem solving tasks. We have learnt how to multiply non-unit fractions and mixed numbers by an integer (e.g. ¾ x 8= and 2 ¾ x 12=)
In Art, we have started to produce drawings inspired by the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo.
In PSHE, the children enjoyed learning how to treat people with basic first aid in a medical emergency. They learnt how to place somebody in the recovery position and how to assess a situation and a person’s needs, using DR ABC. In a different lesson they looked at what kind of physical contact is acceptable or unacceptable and how to respond.
In geography, we looked at farming in the UK
Next week:
In English, we will be looking at explanation texts.
In Maths, we will continue with fractions.
In PSHE, we will be learning about respecting differences and similarities between people and recognising what we have in common (e.g. physically, personality, background). We will also be learning how it feels to be excluded or discriminated against.
In Science, we will be looking at the life cycles of pollinators.
In Music, we will be composing layered tracks using music software, Audacity.
In geography, we be comparing farming in the UK and the USA.
