RE: Next term our topic is ‘Families and Celebrations’. We will be reflecting on our Christmas holidays and what it means to be a member of a family.
Writing: Let’s explore the Dinosaur Planet! Watch out everyone – the dinosaurs are on the prowl. They’re rampaging across the dusty earth, swishing their enormous tails and baring their fearsome teeth. We will begin to dig deep and discover dazzling dinosaur facts.
Which is your favourite dinosaur?
The Tyrannosaurus, the Brachiosaurus or the Micropachycephalosaurus? Doyouthinkhesawus? Yes, he did. Run!
Phonics: We will have a ‘Grow the code week’ our first week back, revisiting and reviewing the following sounds:
/igh/ – ie i i_e
/ai/ – ay a a_e
/oa/ – oa o o_e
/ee/ – e ie e_e ea
/oo/ /yoo/ – ew u_e u ue
Tricky words: house, mouse, water, want, they, pure, sure, could, would, should, our, some, come, love, your, people, their, oh, Mr, Mrs, Ms, ask, were, there, little, here, today, one, their, when, what, here.
What can I do at home? 10 minutes daily reading! Point out the digraphs and trigraphs in your home-school (decodable) books. Make lists of words containing the split digraphs so your child can identify patterns.
Please encourage your child to read without having to segment every sound in every word. Rather than segment aloud, they can use their fingers to do this, e.g. t-r-ee, l-o-s-t…
Maths: We will be consolidating concepts we have been taught in Autumn term such as addition and subtraction as well as place value.
What can I do at home? Support your child at home by practising forming the numbers correctly as well as writing them as words! Use opportunities such as cooking or playing a family board game to count, add or subtract as well as to compare numbers.
PSHE-RHE: This week we will learn that God is love: Father, Son and Holy Spirit and that being made in His image means being called to be loved and to love others.
