Year 5 Weekly Update – 05/11/21

Dear Parents
We have enjoyed the start to our new topic on Peasants, Princes and Pestilence this week and the children took part in our Medieval experience on Tuesday Morning. Since then, we have been working on descriptive poetry about how the black death ravaged the world.
Next week:
In maths, it is Maths Week. We will be doing more investigative activities during lessons, not the usual skill based lessons from White Rose. We will also be taking part in Barvember by looking at bar models (visual representations of number problems) in most lessons.
In RE, we will be thinking about covenants with God, and learning about some of the most important covenants that God made with his people.
In English, we will write and edit individual descriptive poems, then start a new unit on diary writing.
In PSHE we will be learning about the ups and downs of friendships
Please find attached the new ‘knowledge organiser’ for our topic, which contains key vocabulary for the unit, as well as other key information.
The spellings to learn at home this week, ready for our test on Friday 12th, are:
  1. accommodate
  2. accompany
  3. according
  4. achieve
  5. aggressive
  6. amateur
  7. ancient
  8. apparent
  9. appreciate
  10. attached
As always, continue times table work at home to keep the children speedy!
https://transum.org/Tables/Times_Tables.asp This link will help children learn a new times table. We have been learning about factors and multiples in lessons, so if you are feeling competitive then why not challenge your child to a game of Factors and Multiples on Nrich! https://nrich.maths.org/factorsandmultiples
Enjoy your weekends
