RE: We are learning to be aware of the beauty of God’s World and explore and respond to the wonders of creation.
We will be reminding each other about how and why we look after things, how we feel about them and why we want to look after our world.
Writing: We will continue to prepare our Memory Boxes by talking and looking at family photographs. We will be having a go at writing independently and thinking carefully about the spelling of tricky words and common exception words when writing.
What can I do at home? Please support your child at home by providing lots of opportunities for writing for a purpose. Invitations, birthday cards, shopping lists, recipes, recounts from the weekend, to-do lists, bedroom plans…are just a few examples of meaningful and contextual writing.
Phonics: We will be working on our decoding skills. Listening out for initial, middle and end sounds in words. We will be recapping and revisiting the vowel digraphs: ai, ee and oa – including the trigraph ‘igh’.
Your child should be familiar with the actions taught in Reception – ai – snail in the rain, ee – what do you see?, oa – goat on a boat, igh – fly high! We will be teaching and practicing reading and spelling Y1 Common Exception Words: me, she, he.
PLEASE NOTE: The Y1 Common Exception Words are in your child’s Guided Reading record.
What can I do at home? 10 minutes daily reading! Please support your child at home by reading together and talking about what is happening at different points throughout the story, making predictions and discussing characters and setting. You may wish to challenge your child by also making them be digraph detectives within their reading or look out for any tricky words.
Maths: This week we are learning to count one more and one to one correspondence. We will also introduce the symbols <, >, = to compare objects and numbers.
What can I do at home? You can support your child’s learning and understanding by counting objects around the house, lining them up and matching objects to another.
RHE: This week we will hear the Gospel story of God welcoming the children to Him. We will discuss:
· We are created individually by God
· God wants us to talk to Him often through the day and treat Him as our best friend
· God has created us, His children, to know, love and serve Him in this life and forever – this is our purpose and goal and will bring us true happiness
· We are created as a unity of body, mind and spirit: who we are matters and what we do matters
· We can give thanks to God in different ways
PSHE: This week we will be talking about the importance of keeping our teeth clean and the need to rest and sleep.
Science: We will explore our senses by touching, smelling, listening to things that babies use, such as baby toiletries, clothes, toys and feeding utensils. We will describe what they think of the baby items, what the different items are for.
