Dear parents,
It has been wonderful welcoming your children into Year 2. They are a fantastic group of children and we have really enjoyed teaching them for this first week back.
In literacy we have begun our topic of ‘Beachcombers’ by introducing the children to the story ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’. The children have been making predictions about what will happening the story and we have been talking about adjectives and using these to describe the characters.
In Maths we have begun our topic of place value. The children have been looking at how many tens and ones are in a 2 – digit number and have been practising writing and counting up to 50.
In PSHE we have been looking at what makes a good learner and what it means to have a growth mindset. We have also discussed together our class charter and what rules we should follow in class.
In R.E we have begun our topic ‘The Chosen People’ by thinking how lucky we are to be chosen by God and how we can best use God’s gifts.
In Geography we have been discussing the seven continents and which countries we all come from and what languages everyone speaks at home.
This Friday we are looking forward to catching up with as many of you as possible in our Curriculum Meeting. This will be at 9:30 via Zoom. Please find the link below. We will be giving a curriculum overview of Year 2. It will last approximately 30 minutes.

School Trip – We have been overwhelmed with the kind offers of support for our school trip and apologise that we can’t take everyone. We do very much appreciate the offers. We are looking forward to our trip on Monday. Please make sure to check the weather forecast before Monday and to send your child in in appropriate clothing (not school uniform) with sun/wind/rain protection as appropriate. Feel free to send your child in with a bucket and spade on the day if you have one. Please remember to provide your child with a packed lunch and water in a clearly labelled, disposable bag (no glass bottles or products containing nuts please). In the event that your children’s shoes and socks get wet at the beach, we would advise that you provide a bag with a spare pair of shoes and socks. Please put these in a separate bag to your child’s lunch, as their spare shoes will be left on the coach. The beach is rocky, so please consider your child’s shoes carefully, open toe shoes may not be appropriate.
Home Learning – Home learning will begin next week. We have been listening to all the children read this past week and will send home home learning books tomorrow. If you think your child’s reading book is too easy or too hard for them, please bear with us over the next couple of weeks, as we will continue to adjust their reading book levels to make sure they are appropriate. Please make sure to listen to your child read and sign their reading record. Home learning books will be changed on a Thursday.
Library Day – our library day is Friday.
Thank you for your support.
Best wishes,
Mrs. Whyatt and Miss Fielden
