Year 5 Weekly Update – 21/05/21

Dear Parents,
This week the children enjoyed taking part in the May procession followed by a liturgy, and on Tuesday they witnessed the beheading of Anne Boleyn. It has certainly been a varied week!
The spellings that we have been learning about are from the year 5/6 statutory words list. The words we have learnt in class this week are:
excellent
existence
explanation
familiar
foreign
forty
frequently
government
guarantee
harass
Please support your child in learning these spellings at home, as we will test these spellings a week on Friday.
We have been working on calculations using decimals in class, so for Maths homework, we thought these would be good activities to try at home this week:
The activities here will be good as revision for decimal and fraction equivalents:
Next week in school:
In English, we will write newspaper reports about the beheading of Anne Boleyn.
In Maths, we will start our new topic on Geometry and properties of shape.
In RE, we will continue to reflect on the resurrection and learn about different types of prayer
In RHE/PSHE we will learn that sharing isn’t always caring
After half term, we will be starting our new topic called ‘Stargazers’. This is always a fantastically engaging topic.
We have arranged a workshop for the children which will be hosted by an astronomer from the Royal Observatory, as a memorable topic starter. Unfortunately the Royal Observatory is not open for school bookings this academic year, but instead they are hosting digital sessions for schools.
The sessions will take place via zoom on Monday 7th June. The Royal observatory does charge a fee for this workshop, so we request that parents cover the cost of their child’s participation, which will work out at approximately £2.10 per child. This will be added onto your Parent Pay accounts in the next week.
5C parents only – tomorrow, please could you send your child in with a ‘bag for life’ or equivalent size bag so that the children can take home some of their learning.
Thank you and enjoy your weekends,
The year 5 team
