Dear parents,
This week in year 3 in literacy/topic the children have been writing diary entries, pretending they are Hogarth from the Iron Man. They have been trying to use expanded noun phrases and to start their sentences with adverbs. We have been very impressed with their wonderful writing. The children will also be learning to edit their work carefully and give each other effective feedback on how to improve their writing.
This week in Maths the children will be using different methods to subtract money. They will see examples where they can physically remove the coins, and examples where they will need to use their knowledge of converting money to exchange £1 for 100 pence. Children will also use number lines to count on or back to calculate the difference between two amounts. We will then move onto subtracting amounts to find change. We will use coins to practically model giving change and will role-play shop type scenarios in order to give children a context of giving and receiving change.
During our RE Lesson this week, the children will be given an opportunity to know what happens at the Offertory and the Consecration and will think about the offerings we can make.
After the Easter holidays, we will begin our new topic of ‘tremors’. We would like to begin this topic by making some papier mache volcanoes. In order to do this, we would really appreciate you sending in any newspapers you can after the Easter break. Please make sure to check these newspapers for inappropriate photos/content and remove these before sending them in. We will also be needing plastic water bottles – 500 – 750ml ones and large pieces of cardboard – about 40cm squared. Anything you can send us in to help us with our DT lesson, would be much appreciated.
There will be no home learning this week, as it is the Easter holidays, but please do make sure to continue to listen to your child read regularly over the Easter break. We hope you have a wonderful holiday!
Best wishes,
Mrs. Whyatt and Mrs. Fraser
