Dear parents/carers,
This week in year 3 in our literacy we have been continuing to write our own adventure stories, following the structure of the Stone Age Boy. We have tried to use speech marks and interesting adjectives in our stories and also to make sure that they have a clear structure, setting, characters and plot.
Maths: The children will be using Base 10 and partitioning to add together 2-digit numbers including an exchange. They will be encouraged to draw Base 10 alongside recording any formal column method. The children have previously seen what happens when there are more than 10 ones and should now be confident in exchanging 10 ones for one 10. We will then be using our knowledge of one ten being the same as ten ones to exchange when crossing a ten in subtraction. We will continue to use concrete manipulatives and pictorial representations (such as number lines and part-whole models) to develop the children’s understanding. The skill of flexible partitioning is useful here when the children are calculating with exchanges.
RE: During our lessons, we will be focusing on the season of Advent. The children will be learning that Advent is a time to prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus and will spend time thinking about how we can prepare.
We have also spent time rehearsing and performing our class Christmas Prayer Services. Thank you for your support in helping your children learn their lines.
For home learning this week please continue to learn the 4 times table. In spellings we have been looking at how sometimes the ‘i’ sound can be written as ‘y’. Please help your child to learn the following words:
gym
myth
mystery
Egypt
pyramid
cygnet
Please also make sure to listen to your child read and sign their reading record.
Thank you for your support.
