Dear parents/carers,
This week in year 3 in our literacy we have been planning our own adventure stories, following the structure of the Stone Age Boy. In our adventure stories our characters will be time travelling back to 1666, the time of the Great Fire of London. Later on this week we will be writing the beginning and middle of our adventure stories. This afternoon for our history we will be following a live stream workshop from the Museum of London, where we will be uncovering a ‘Bronze Age Mystery’. The children are very excited about this.
Maths: In Maths this week we will be building on their knowledge of adding 100s together e.g. 300 + 500 = 700, by adding ones and tens to solve calculations such as 234 + 500. It is important for the children to recognise that when adding and subtracting 100s, the ones and tens columns are not affected.
Drawing on the previous steps together, the children will be consolidating adding ones, tens and hundreds to 3-digit numbers. They will be encouraged to look for patterns between calculations to enable them to predict answers and to develop their number sense. The children will need to reflect on the similarities and differences between calculations to highlight the patterns.
RE: We are learning about the Mystery of the Incarnation. The children will be given the opportunity to discuss some of the wonderful things that are being created today that our grandparents never had as children. We will reflect on the many things in life that we still wonder about – mysteries and the children will be encouraged to pose questions that we cannot answer.
For home learning this week please continue to learn the 4 times table. In spellings we have been looking at adding prefixes ‘mis’ and ‘re’ and how they change the meaning of the root words. Please help your child to learn the following words:
replay
redo
reread
return
reappear
mishear
mistake
misbehave
Please also make sure to listen to your child read and sign their reading record.
Thank you for your support.
