
For spellings, children will all learn the same set of words. There will always be a list of 10 words, however, if you feel your child is finding it tricky to learn the entire list, encourage them to learn the first 5. In this case, they will also only be tested on the first 5 in class.

Times tables
The times tables we will be testing next week will be: 2s, 5s, 10s, 8s, 11s, 4s and 6s.
Maths
In maths this week, we will learn about Roman numerals and then we will begin our addition and subtraction topic. We will begin by adding and subtracting multiples of 10, 100 and 1000 from 4-digit numbers.
Next week, we will continue with addition. We will use column addition to add two 3-digit numbers together, firstly with no exchanging, then moving on to exchanging. We will then repeat this with 4-digit numbers.
Literacy
This week, we will begin our potions topic by looking at the story of Alice in Wonderland. We will then look at instructional writing. First of all, thinking about formal and informal style and then looking at imperative verbs. Next week, we will be writing a set of instructions for a potion bottle.
RE
We will begin our new topic ‘Trust in God’. Firstly, we will look at the meaning of the word trust and where we find examples of trust in the Bible. We will continue this next week by looking at the story of Zechariah.
Science
Our science topic this half term is states of matter where will be learning abeout solids, liquids and gases. This week we will investigate the properties of solids, liquids and gases (e.g. liquids can flow). Next week, we will move on to investigating the differences in the particles in solids, liquids and gases (e.g. the particles in a sold do not move and they have a fixed shape).
Art
We will be planning our winter art painting a recreation of Monet’s Sandvika.
RHE
In RHE, the children will continue on unit 1, with session 1 where they will learn about the Sacraments of Baptism and Reconciliation.
