We hope you all had a lovely half term! This week in year 3 in our literacy/topic we will be finding out more about different predators and planning, then beginning to write a non-chronological report about these predators.
In Maths the children will be adding and subtracting ones from a 3-digit number without exchange. They will consider which digits are affected when adding ones. For example, if a child is completing 214 – 3 and 214 + 3 they should see that they just need to focus on the ones column. Therefore, all they need to is 4 + 3 and 2 – 3 respectively. Before crossing the 10 with addition, the children need to have a strong understanding of place value. They will be shown that the ten ones are the same as one ten and revise partitioning two-digit numbers in order to add them.
For home learning this week please begin to learn the 4 times table. In spellings we have been looking at how an apostrophe can be used when two words are contracted together. Please help your child to learn the following words, making sure to form their apostrophes correctly:
can’t
won’t
you’ve
I’d
doesn’t
isn’t
couldn’t
shouldn’t
there’s
Please also make sure to listen to your child read and sign their reading record.
Thank you for your support.
