Year 3 Weekly Update – 09/10/20

Dear parents/carers,

This week in year 3 to celebrate black history month the children have begun learning and researching about Martin Luther King and his struggle for civil rights. We will later on be making a video to show our learning about Martin Luther King to other year groups.

In Maths we will be building on children’s learning in Year 2 where they explored finding one more/less, the children will now move onto finding 10 and 100 more or less than a given number. The children will be encouraged to represent their answers in a variety of different ways. For example, as numerals or words, or with concrete manipulatives.

In R.E we will be learning about receiving the Sacrament of Baptism and recognizing that this is when we join the Church. We will spend time reflecting on what this Sacrament does for us.

For home learning this week, please revise your 10,5 and 2 times tables. In spellings we will be learning about adding the suffixes ‘ing’ and what rules to follow. Please help your child to learn the following words:

Walk

Run

Please also make sure to listen to your child read and sign their reading record. Also just to remind you that if your child is still on the KS1 reading scheme and taking home home-school books, they need to return these on Wednesdays and new ones will be sent home on Fridays. This is to allow for a 48 hour quarantine of books between bubbles.

From this week the children will begin taking library books home from our class libraries. Our library day will be Wednesday and everyone can take a book of their choice home then. Please enjoy these together as a family, then return these next Wednesday, if they would like a new book.

Thank you for your support.
