Times tables
The times tables we are testing this week will include: 2,3,4,5,10 times tables. We will start teaching and revising the 6 times tables next week.
Literacy:
Using collaborative writing techniques in their talk partners, the children have composed an extended piece of writing recounting Boudicca’s revolt. The have focused on the skill of opening sentences with adverbials of time to create detail and cohesion. Next week, we will learn the events of Spartacus’ slave revolt, exploring some of the issues of roman society and slavery. In describing a gladiatorial contest, the children will build on their use of time adverbials and add adverbials of manner (how something happened).
Maths:
We have spent much of this week consolidating the children’s understanding of rounding including rounding to the nearest 100. We will go further next week into the place value of numbers to 10,000 including counting in thousands and placing numbers on a number line with a variety of scales and integers.
RE: The children have explored the message God sends through the life of Joseph in the Old Testament. Next week, we will be learning the scripture of Moses’ life and the Ten Commandments.
Music: The children will be using their listening skills to identify different orchestral instruments from the woodwind family.
Science: The children have described how sounds travel in waves because of vibrations. They have used the vocabulary of amplitude to describe changes in how loud or soft a sound is. Next week we, will learn about how pitch changes with the sound wave.
