Year 5 Weekly Update – 25/09/20

Dear Parents,
We have thoroughly enjoyed starting our new topic called ‘Pharaohs’ with the children this week!
After mummifying their classmates on Monday, the children researched the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb and investigated some of the artefacts that were found inside.
Here is a short overview of our learning for next week:
– In Maths, we will be finishing our unit on place value by looking at Roman Numerals. We will then be moving onto our unit of addition and subtraction using mental methods.
-In English, we will be writing newspaper articles about the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb, ensuring we use fronted adverbials to give detail about locations and times.
-In RE – we will continue to learn from the stories of Genesis about creation. We will then learn about some of the Saints who dedicated their lives to looking after God’s creation.
– In RHE/PSHE we will be reflecting on our gifts and talents (using Tenten resources)
-History/Geography – we continue to learn about aspects of Ancient Egyptian life
The spellings that we have learnt in school this week have all had silent letters in. The spelling words to learn at home are as follows:
Group 1
whistle
thistle
thumb
isle
doubt
solemn
island
debt
lamb
knight
autumn
numb
Please continue to support your children with learning their times tables, and by reading with them daily for 20 minutes.
Enjoy your weekend!
Kind regards,
The year 5 team
