Dear parents/carers,
This week in Year 3 we have begun our topic of predators. The children will be learning about the differences between predators and prey and what carnivores, herbivores and omnivores are. They will be learning how to use a dictionary to look up topic vocabulary.
In Maths we will be learning that 3-digit numbers are made up of 100s, 10s and 1s. The children will be shown different representations using base 10 and on a place value grid, and will write them in numerals, for example 2 hundred, 3 tens and 4 ones = 234. The children will use place value counters to represent different numbers and to help their understanding of how a number is made. Their work with base 10 should help them to understand that the hundreds counter is worth more than the tens counter and the tens counter is worth more than the ones counter.
In R.E we will be reflecting on what it means to be part of the family of the Church. The children will spend time thinking about how the family of the Church helps us. It is important for the children to realize that the church is not just a building; it is a community of people.
In RSE the children will be given the opportunity to hear and experience the Gospel story of Jesus healing Jairus’ daughter. Through times of discussion, imaginative reflection and creative response, the children will reflect upon being created by God out of love and for love: they were designed for this purpose, which should inform how they live.
For home learning this week please revise counting forward in steps of 10, 5 and 2. You can extend your child by seeing if they can do this from any given number. We have also set an activity on Purple Mash to do if they wish. For spellings this week, the children have been looking at adding the suffix ‘ed’ to the end of verbs. Please help them to learn the following words:
liked
walked
hoped
loved
touched
hoped
hopped
wanted.
Please also make sure to read with your child and sign their reading record.
Thank you for your support.
