Reception Weekly Update

In mathematics we looked at the topic of measurement. We have really enjoyed ordering our class in order of height. We described ourselves as taller or shorter than our learning partner. We have built towers from bricks and cubes and used mathematical language to describe them. When we looked at a variety of vegetables, we made predictions as to which one would be the heaviest or lightest.

In RE we have started the unit of sorrow and joy. We discussed what could make someone sad and how we could then make them happy. The children have been taking the Lenten pack home and sharing it with their families.

We have now come to the end of phase 3 phonics. The children will continue to revisit graphemes, digraphs and trigraphs and will be encouraged to apply their phonic knowledge to their writing. We will be writing lots of captions and sentences. We will keep you updated on tapestry.

This week we celebrated world book day. The children and staff arrived at school in their pyjamas. The children were encouraged to bring in their favourite book. The children shared their books with their learning partners. Throughout the day the adults read as many books as possible. In the afternoon we were all treated to hot chocolate.

During PE lessons we have had a focus on dance. We have been acting out Nursey rhymes and turning the movements into a dance. The children also learnt the rhyme Jack and Jill.
