Maths: This week, we introduced our new unit ‘measurement – money’ by setting up our own classroom shop. The children were able to buy a range of items using coins (pence), this gave the children the opportunity to recognize the value of each coin and was an excellent talking point when deciding upon the most appropriate coin to use.
This unit introduces the £ and p symbols for the first time. The children spent time this week counting in 1p, 2p, 5p and 10p coins and because of related facts, some children also counted in 20ps. In this unit, the children do not convert between pounds and pence, therefore children will not count in 50ps.
The £ symbol was introduced towards the end of the week. The children counted in £1, £2, £5, £10 and £20s.
*Please note: In this year group, children work within 100 therefore children will not count in £50s.
RE: The children have been reflecting on God’s choice of Mary and Joseph and we have spent time remembering that Jesus is God’s gift to the world. The children retold the story of the Annunciation by completing a range of drama and writing activities.
