Year 5 Weekly Update

This week in year 5, the children have been:

Finishing their biographies about Henry VIII. They are fantastic!
Learning to add and subtract numbers with more than 4 digits and applying these skills to problem solving
Writing letters to God to thank Him for the gifts and talents that he has given

Next week, the children will be:
Writing persuasive letters from Anne Boleyn to Henry
Deepening their understanding of subtraction, estimating and using the inverse
Learning about Nelson Mandela and his legacy

The spellings words to learn at home this week all have silent letters in them. They are:
whistle
thumb
isle
doubt
solemn
island
thistle
debt
lamb
knight
autumn
numb

We will be doing a spellings test on these words next Friday (4th October). Remember that children should be reading for a minimum of 20 minutes every day at home.
