We have had a wonderful start to the new academic year! The children seem to be thoroughly enjoying their new topic entitled ‘Off with her head!’. We thought we would send a little overview of what we have been learning so far.
In English, we are writing biographies about Henry VIII, focussing on using varied sentence starters and high quality vocabulary. Our spellings focus has been ‘ough’ words.
In our Reading lessons, we have read an interview with Ronaldo and answered retrieval and vocabulary questions on it.
In Maths, we have been looking at place value up to a million.
In RE, we have been learning about the Creation story, the Story of the Fall and researching some of God’s greatest helpers (St Francis of Assissi, St Martin de Porres and St Vincent de Paul)
In History, we have made medieval tabards to wear during our re-enactment of the Battle of Bosworth, we have studied portraits of Henry VIII and created timelines of the Tudor monarchy.
In Geography, the children have been studying maps.
Next week:
In Writing, we will be finishing and publishing the biographies to put on display.
In Maths, we will be moving on to addition and subtraction using both mental and written methods
We won’t be sending official spellings or times table homework until next week, but please remember in the meantime that children need to be reading for at least 20 minutes every day.
Enjoy your weekend!
