After a long hard season the boy’s football team came to a close on Thursday afternoon in dra-matic fashion. It was the final of the Barnet League Cup and therefore the biggest game of our season, as the winners would be crowed the champions of Barnet. The game kicked off in glorious May sunshine and an enthralling match was about to unfold. We were up against Whitings Hill – the winners of their league – to see who would be crowned champions of Barnet by the final whistle.
The boy’s got off to a storming start and no cup final jitters were evident from the outset. After a few near misses we finally took the lead through a thunderbolt from Luca’s right boot, which flew straight into the top corner from outside the box. With the lead established we grew in confidence and doubled our lead through a power strike from John which was too hot for the goalkeeper to deal with. Our third goal was added right before the break with a lovely move fin-ished off by Pablo who had to composure to round the keeper and slot home, to give us a commanding lead at the break.
After the break the boy’s were doing so well to see the game out with a professional performance. However 2 goals in the space of two minutes from Whitings Hill en-sured for a nervy conclusion to our season. After a late scare and much hard all work all season the final whistle was blown.
