Music Clubs and Ensembles

Choir

The school choir is a wonderful opportunity for a child to make music using the most flexible and expressive instrument available to them – their voice. We rehearse a wide range of fun and challenging music every week, and participate regularly in external performances including the Barnet Schools Music Festival in the summer term, in community events around barnet and we have even performed at the Royal Albert Hall.

It is open to all children from Year 2 up and we are happy to offer two rehearsals:

Tuesday 3.30 – 4.10 in 5B (Mr Bell’s Classroom) , as this is an afterschool club parents must inform Mr Bell and/or the School office if their child will attend and a register will be taken (children will be expected to attend regularly each week).

Thursday 8.10 – 8.40am in the Main School Hall

Orchestra

The School orchestra is open to children playing Instruments who have achieved a Grade 1 or above (or if they have not undertaken an examination come and play for Mr Bell). There are limited spaces for pianists (as there is only one piano).  It takes place on Friday afternoon at 13:35 after registration in the dining hall.

Camerata (chamber orchestra)

I will be running a special advanced ensemble for children who have made significant advancement in their instrumental studies (grade 3+ or on recommendation from their teacher). Rehearsals will be organised on an ad hoc basis.

Recorder Club

We will we running a recorder club on Friday Lunch time for children in KS2 starting at 1pm in 5B. Children can come from any ability level, and we will work on developing playing ability towards performances to the school. Children will need to bring their own recorder, however if a child does forget I usually have some spares.

Recorder Consort

For more advanced players we will be rehearsing a small ensemble with descant, treble, tenor and bass size recorders. Children must have been working toward or have taken grade 1 or above. Rehearsals will take place during Thursday lunchtimes in 5B from 1pm.
