Bishop Sherrington visits St Catherine’s

It was wonderful to welcome Bishop John Sherrington to our school on Tuesday.   Bishop Sherrington has responsibility for the pastoral care of the parishes and deaneries of North London. He joined the year 3/4 children in a small gathering where the Rights Respecting Ambassadors led a short prayer service about praying for the children in God’s world and their responsibilities as ambassadors. Bishop John thanked them for their hard work and dedication. It gave everyone the opportunity to reflect on being part of God’s family.

Then Bishop John was taken on a tour of the school. Bishop John met all the children and gave them an opportunity to ask questions. There were some very interesting questions which Bishop John happily answered.

He was extremely impressed with the children and thanked us for the opportunity to meet the children, staff and some of our parents who were in the reception classes with their children.

6V Prayer Service

Thank you to Mrs Van den Abbeele and Class 6V for leading the first prayer service of our school year. Their prayer service began with a beautiful song called ‘Let us build a house where love can dwell’. Through their readings , singing and drama they told us about ‘The Solemn Re-opening of Mary Immaculate and St Gregory and the Consecration of the Altar’.  They reminded us all of how movng and special this ceremony was.

As Cardinal Nichols said the altar is a constant reminder of what God asked the disciples to do in memory of him. It also reminds us of the important part we play in God’s plan. God wants our Church and school to be places of love, places of welcome and places where our faith is continually strengthened. It was wonderful to see so many parents.

New School Year Mass

Thank you to Father John for coming to celebrate our ‘New School Year Mass’. It was a truly joyous occasion. The theme of the Mass was ‘Walk in the Light’. We know how important it is to live our faith and follow Jesus’ examples and teachings. Each of us can share the light of Jesus everyday! Each of us can make a difference by how we treat each other.

A special ‘Thank You’ to the children from Class 6V who led the Mass and read with such clarity and reverence. The children sang beautifully. It was wonderful to see so many parents .

The Solemn Re-Opening of the Church and the Consecration of the Altar

On Sunday many of our community had the opportunity to be a part of this sacred and joyful celebration. We welcomed Cardinal Vincent Nichols to preside over this very special celebration. As Cardinal Vincent said it was a day of rejoicing , coming together to bless the extension of our church. Father John opened the doors and we entered  singing joyfully. The Cardinal blessed the font and the gift of water. Later in the service the relic of St Pontian was placed in the altar and then Cardinal Vincent anointed the altar. The altar was then wiped and dressed in linen cloths, the cross, the candles and flowers. After Holy Communion the Cardinal blessed the new tabernacle.

Father John looked extremely proud and rightly so. He thanked everyone in the local community who had helped on this exciting journey. The teachers look forward to visiting Mary Immaculate and St Gregory this term, growing in faith together.

It was a truly memorable service, one we will remember for a very long time. We were extremely proud to see children, both past and present from St Catherine’s,  have the wonderful opportunity of serving at this special Mass.

First Holy Communion Mass

Thank you to Father James and Father John for coming to celebrate Mass. It was wonderful to welcome so many of our parents on Wednesday. The children were extremely excited. They sang beautifully and read the prayers confidently. Congratulations to Jack who served mass today- his first time at st Catherine’s.

They were all presented with a small crucifix at the end of the service to celebrate their special day. We also congratulated Father James who celebrates the Anniversary of his 10 years Ordination on Saturday.

2B Prayer Service

Thank you to Class 2B for leading a beautiful prayer service about our special gifts from God. They spoke about how it is important to share our gifts of qualities such as kindness, generosity and honesty. They gave us examples of how they use these gifts at home and at school. The prayer service finished with a beautiful song.  Thank you to Miss Robinson for preparing the children so well. It was lovely to see so many parents attend this special gathering. We are extremely proud of all the children.

Reception Mass

Thank you to Father Oliver for coming to celebrate Mass. It was wonderful to welcome so many of our Reception parents and younger brothers and sistes on Wednesday. The children were extremely excited. They sang beautifully and read the prayers confidently.

The readings were especially chosen to show how great God’s love is for his children. The Gospel reading reminded us of one of God’s commandments – “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” The children have had an amazing year in Reception and they are looking forward to continued happiness in their new class “Loving and learning together as Jesus taught us.”

1W Prayer Service

Thank you to Class 1W and Mrs Whyatt for leading a special prayer service on Monday about ‘Friendship’. They all spoke clearly and gave a very important message about how to be a good friend. They ended their prayer service with a beautiful song. It was lovely to see so many parents attend this special gathering. We are extremely proud of all the children.

1K Prayer Service

Thank you to Class 1K and Mr Kutner for leading the prayer service this week. It was lovely to see so many parents attend this special gathering and listen to the very important message. They retold the story of Jesus calming the storm and gave us the opportunity to reflect on God’s great love for us all. He is always there for us. They ended their prayer service by singing a beautiful song called “Who put the colours in the rainbow?” They accompanied the wonderful words with actions. We are extremely proud of all the children.

2C Prayer Service

Thank you to Miss Carrick and her class for leading the first KS1 prayer services on Monday. It was wonderful to see so many of our parents join us in this gathering. The children told us all about the Feast of Pentecost. Pentecost is the festival when Christians celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit. It is celebrated on the Sunday 50 days after Easter. The children told us how the Holy Spirit guides them in their own lives. They sang ‘I’ve got the power in me!’ with such enthusiasm and confidence. Many of our parents commented on what a wonderful atmosphere there was and such a beautiful way to start the day. We are all extremely proud of the children.
